About
I’m Ben Giles, a graduate student at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. I’m currently interning at The Washington Examiner in the Washington D.C.
I’ve been a District suburbanite my entire life. Born and raised in Bowie, MD, I decided to study journalism late in high school while I tried to pick what college I would attend. In 2005 I left Bowie to study at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, VA. In 2008, I graduated with a B.A. in Communications. At college, I focused on Journalism and Media Studies.
I left Virginia Wesleyan with a wealth of experience, but I still needed fine tuning. So I came to Maryland to refine my reporting skills and to learn more about new interactive media technology. My focus is in Online Journalism, where I study new media reporting techniques while enhancing my writing capabilities.
I’ll graduate in May 2010, when I will hopefully have a job lined up that will take advantage of my newly acquired skills as a jack-of-all-trades reporter.
